Five steps - quick overview About Appliances About Schedules Choosing a Designer About Colours Accessories

    Review your Current Appliances.

Firstly you need to evaluate which appliances you will be re-using in the kitchen.

Over the years cooking units have evolved from an upright combined stove, grill and burners to individual units that are either cut into the bench top or have the cabinetry built around them. The modern trend is to install single or double ovens at waist height or higher to ease the strain in removing heavy baked dishes. Microwave ovens also are often built-in. These Appliances are usually the ones that are a must to replace (as replacement after the kitchen is installed could be very costly).

Here is a list of the Appliances that are 'Typically' replaced:

      • Oven
      • Cook Top
      • Sink
      • Tap
      • Extraction Fan/Rangehood

Below are some appliances that are a 'universal size'. These appliances can be changed over at a later stage and the kitchen does not have to be modified. So if the appliances breakdown and can not be repaired they can be swapped over effortlessly. Here is a list of the Appliances that are 'Typically' re-used:

    o        Fridge/Freezer

    o        Dishwasher

    o        Microwave

This is intended as a guide only and your individual circumstances could well be different,

Specific Appliance Questions

Once you have established which of your appliances need replacing, you then have to consider things like:

o        Would I like a gas or electric cook top? Which is best for me?

o        Do you want a large cook top or a small one?

o        Do I really need a fish grill in the cook top?

o        What type of extractor do you like? canopy hood or slide-out range hood?

o        Should I have an under bench oven or a wall mounted one?

o        Do I wash up Left to Right or the other way?

    o        A double bowl sink or a 1 3/4 bowl sink?

This is only a small sample selection of some of the questions that you need to think about. Sounds difficult? It's not. You will get all the help you need from a good Appliance Retailers , they are the experts in this field and are only too willing to help.

You do not need to have made a final choice of your appliances at the pre-Design stage, rather just have a good idea of what you like, where they should go and how much they will cost. This then forms the bases of the initial design process. Final measurements will be taken into account when the design process is finalised and after you or your retailer has supplied the exact dimensions.
