Step 1: Appliances and Budgets.
-
Review your appliances requirements.
You start by evaluating which
Appliances
you will be re-using in the kitchen then visit an
Appliance Retailer
to get an idea of the types and sizes of the appliances that you
need. A basic package typically starts at around $3,000, however you could
spend $10,000 plus on your appliances, depending on your specific needs and
requirements.
- What style of Kitchen would you like?
Country, Modern, Traditional,
Clean Lines, Bold, Glossy. Not sure, then review our
Design options pages, or visit our
showroom and relax on our comfortable sofa and browse through our many kitchen magazines for
inspirational ideas.
-
- Review your Budget.
A good industry rule of thumb is the kitchen (including
appliances) should represent approximately 7% of your property's value.
For new homes, builders would set aside approximately 10% of the building cost for a new kitchen.
You can review Costs
for more detailed budget breakdowns.
The average for a 3 bedroom home in Canberra
at the time of writing is $350,000, that equates to around $24,000 for the
kitchen. This is not a hard and fast rule, as individual needs, desires and
requirements vary greatly.
-
-
It is very useful to both of us if you can advise the Designer about your Budget
(if you have one) as they can then custom tailor the kitchen design and finishes
perfectly around this, avoiding
either under-designing or over-designing your kitchen project.
Although we cannot give you a true cost before the design is completed, we are
more than willing to provide rough estimates before you commit to engaging a designer;
the closeness of the initial estimate depends a lot on the preliminary information supplied by you,
this is discussed in more detail in the
About Quotations pages.
Step 2: Commence the Design
process
- Engage & Consult with designer.
Now is the time to make
an appointment with a Kitchen Designer, it is very important to use a professional
Designer to create a custom designed kitchen to suit your needs, your tastes all within your budget.
Our Designer
will come to your home, measure your room and discuss your needs and requirements with
you.
As discussed in the 'About Quotations pages' we do charge a (small) design fee to cover the 8 to 20 hours
spent on your requirements and production of a fully itemised design, but these costs are refundable if you
decide eventually to entrust Aneka Kitchens with your purchase order.
Money Back Guarantee:
Once the Professional Design Service is completed, If you are not satisfied with the final customised design, quality, level of service and
value-for-money of your design service, we will gladly refund the full design amount.
-
- Preliminary Design.
After the Design is
complete, you will be invited back into our showroom to review and discuss
the design using full graphical perspectives viewed with our computerised
kitchen software. giving you a complete ‘walk through’
(viewing the simulated kitchen in colour) from different angles) of your new
kitchen before it's even built.
(see 'About Us'
for a sample).
-
- Initial itemized quotation.
An itemised quotation
will be presented based upon the design, the types of finishes initially
selected and the 'Other Trades' involved (Electrician, Plumber, Plasterer,
Tiler etc). Our Designer will then carefully go through the quote with you
so you fully understand what you have been quoted for.
Step 3: Balance design vs. budget.
- Reflection.
Now is the time to
review the design, materials and finishes against your initial budgetary
constraints and to make decisions on the final look and costing of the
kitchen. Think again about
Benchtops options ,
Flooring (the thickness of the floor covering will affect the bench height that we design) and
Lighting suggestions.
-
- Adjustments.
Feel free to
discuss any design, choice or cost options with us; we are totally
flexible and understand that the initial design may not be perfectly
suited to you or your budget, or that you may have changed your initial
ideas.
The Web Pages
Cabinets and following pages discuss many options and choices with respect to
the kitchen construction and it may be helpful to review some of these.
-
- Design &
Quotation Amended.
The Design is then
amended and the revised quotation is then adjusted accordingly.
Step 4: Acceptance & Contract
details.
- Acceptance of quotation.
You are happy with the
design concept and accept the quotation by informing Aneka Kitchens.
-
- Finalise Appliances.
It is at this stage
that all the Appliances need to be finalised as their dimensions may have changed over
time; the true sizes are of great importance to the manufacturing process.
-
- Finalise design.
A final visit to
the Designer may be required to select the colour schemes, fine tune the
design and perhaps to include some last minute inclusion or exclusion in
the quotation.
-
- Confirm installation date.
A date is worked out
based upon the time it normally takes for the materials to arrive and
our then current production schedule. a firm installation date is worked out to suit your needs.
-
- Prepare contract.
The design, specifications,
mutually agreed obligations and financial details are itemised; the Contract document
is drawn up and is finalised when you return a signed copy.
Step 5: Kitchen installation.
- Order Appliances.
You will need to
make sure that they are available either at time of Kitchen installation
or preferably sooner; Aneka Kitchens can assist with the ordering if so desired.
If the factory needs some of them to build into the joinery
units before the installation day then we will advise you.
-
- Order materials.
After a final site
measure ( to ensure last minute changes are not impacted by the physical
dimensions of your current kitchen), we then determine the materials specification lists, place purchase orders for the bought-in parts
and components and enter your job into our production schedule. After this stage it will be costly
to make further alterations.
-
- Arrange 'Other Trades’.
We then organise any
'Sub-Trades’ (Electrician, Plumber, Plasterer, Tiler, etc) that we have
quoted for to ensure they are available on the required day. Details of the installation period are discussed
in the 'Before you start' pages.
.
-
- Manufacture Kitchen.
The Kitchen then
gets manufactured and assembled in our own factory.
-
- Installation.
Typically allow
2-3 days for removal of old and installation of new kitchen cabinets &
bench tops and a week for the other sub-trades to finish. The installation
of certain materials like: Granite or Corian benchtops, Glass splashbacks, etc.
will take longer to install, but this will be identified during the design phase and job scheduling.
Final comment.
CHOICE Magazine
September 1994, whilst reporting on
'Buying a new kitchen' stated:
The path to a sparkling new kitchen is paved with dubious discounts, poor product information and potentially
high financial risks. This article is well worth reading in its totality, it is available at Public Libraries
and also in our showroom.
